Let's go 2022! A few magical days have wheeled in to send off the new year - part blue-bird snowshine and a whole lotta light fluffy powder. We survived the last days of 2021 and its rigor mortus of sub-zero temps and relentless conditions during holiday camps. Not gonna lie, it was sometimes pretty rough. What got us through was the joy of skiing.
McCall Winter Sports Club's 2021 Holiday Camps were 150 athletes joyful; including 30 backcountry skiers beeping, 55 all-mountain holiday campers cheering in costume, 26 racers slaloming, and 39 Mighty Mites lapping Bear Chair.
Special thanks to everyone who helped make the season kick-off a success. Keep reading for more about the people, our place and purpose for the season; including Bob Greenwood Scholarship Award recipients, a recap and photo collage of the Home Town Races, and upcoming events at Brundage Mountain and Little Ski Hill.

ANOTHER BACKCOUNTRY BOOT CAMP(BCBC) GOES DOWN IN THE BOOKS Brrrrrrr......."BCBC 2021 was not only filled with Avalanche Education but was also a lesson in body temperature management. Very cold temps made for cold fingers, toes and EPIC POW skiing!!" says Coach Michelle Romportl who returns to MWSC for her 4th season.
Thirty backcountry boot campers landed four big days of learning about avalanche awareness and safe winter travel last week. For returning athletes; including Dominic Colafranceschi; this was another early season refresher. Dominic stepped up as a leader amongst his sometimes-rowdy group. A little bit of uphill marching helps mellow the mood - and Dom's positive influence all around is just one of the reasons Coach Austin and Coach Michelle selected him to be the 2022 recipient athlete of the Bob Greenwood Scholarship.
The Big Mountain Freeski Team will begin regular weekend training at Brundage to prepare for upcoming IFSA Big Mountain competitions and backcountry tours.

HOME TOWN DAYS & RACES GO OFF WITH STYLE! Home Town Races 2021 went down December 30th at Brundage Mountain with the Badger Wiggle and the Pickle Giant Slalom.
The Badger Wiggle simulated a big mountain competition. Teams of 3 skied Slot Car - once a lift line and today a cool spot for intermediate tree skiing between Race Course and Griz.
Pictured is Team Daisies nearing the Wiggle Course finish for a spot on the podium. Cosette, Amelia and Lauren finish with high points for control and fluidity. ![]() Team Daisies took 3rd in the younger division for The Wiggle. All the ladies on the Giant Slalom course brought speed. Tessa Beebe's time was third fastest overall amongst the boys and girls. The all-girls "Animals" team; Kate, Taryn, Hailey and Maya; put flying times up on the scoreboard themselves. See all racer times here. ![]() Big floppy ears and long tails don't slow down The Animals. Overall team winners were determined by combining finishes for both the Badger Wiggle and the Pickle GS races. The Kanobes; Owen, Cooper and Max, took home the overall in the older division and The Daisies took team overall in the younger division. ![]() The Hula Sisters bring warm thoughts of sunshine and tropical smoothies. The Hula Sisters; Dempsy, Alyse and Courtni; brought style points, competition, and luau flavor to the Home Town Races and après, tailgating party which wrapped up camp with an awards ceremony outside the Alpine Racing Center.
Following team awards, the Bob Greenwood Athlete Scholarship Awards were presented by Barb and Donn Bryant of Bogus Basin Ski Club. Pictured with Barb and Donn are MWSC athletes who "demonstrate a passion for skiing and the opportunities the sport presents to progress as an athlete and grow to be a model teammate and citizen." Congrats to Maya, Lauren, Rylee, Hailey, and Dominic(not pictured)! The Bob Greenwood Athlete Scholarship awards are made possible with a collaborative effort. Bogus Basin Ski Club recruits a multi-day ski package which then gets auctioned off at the Little Ski Hill's Snow Ball. This year's package for Alta/Snowbird went for $1800! Funds are gifted to MWSC athletes to help with costs of the sport and pursuit of love for the sport.

This is a 10-week program 4:45-6:45pm Wednesdays and Fridays at Little Ski Hill. By the end of it, our team's Shifties and Fakies will be as good as the lodge's French Fries. FUN, PROGRESSION, COMMUNICATION & SAFETY ![]() ![]() Thank you Devo coaches for helping make the Holiday Camp so much fun! These are our mantras the season. Every day this winter we will choose fun, progression, communication and safety for ourselves, our team, and our village; which is growing! ![]() Invisible? Although we may appear to be invisible in this picture, our presence is strong on the mountain. Special thanks to our partners at Brundage Mountain and Little Ski Hill - and to our amazing coaches for keeping it real! Besides turning the bull wheel and linking turns, we are also teaching and learning life lessons.

THANK YOU SPONSORS!
My new year's resolution is to show more gratitude. The Capricorn in me tends to brush off my own achievements and this dismissal unfortunately sometimes fails to show appreciation to others. Together our team will make great things happen in 2022!
Thankful for my team,
Chris Costa Executive Director McCall Winter Sports Club
